Special Issue of the Canadian Journal of Information and Library Science Suggested title: LIS Perspectives on Privacy and Information Management Guest editors: Jacquelyn Burkell and Alexandre Fortier Proposed aim and scope: Information professionals have the difficult task of managing information and supporting others to do the same in an increasingly complex environment where issues of information protection, control, and ownership are of paramount importance. These issues present challenges to the practice of information professionals: for example, how can libraries adequately protect the privacy of patron information? They also invite a discussion of the role of information professionals in public education and literacy: should information professionals be responsible for public education on issues such as privacy, intellectual property, and copyright? This special issue focuses on the role of information professionals with respect to these aspects of information management. We are seeking submissions that address these issues, examining questions including (but not limited to): 1)      Among information professionals, what is the state of knowledge regarding information protection, control and ownership? What do information professionals know and need to know about issues such as privacy and information management? What training do we offer, and what should we offer, to information professionals with respect to these issues? 2)      How are information professionals responding to the policy issues that arise with respect to privacy and information management? Archival Information Systems (AIS) are becoming increasingly important. For decades, the amount of content created digitally is growing and its complete life cycle nowadays tends to remain digital. A selection of this content is expected to be of value for the future and can thus be considered being part of our cultural heritage. As soon as these digital publications become obsolete, but are still deemed to be of value in the future, they have to be transferred smoothly into appropriate AIS where they need to be kept accessible even through changing technologies.

This focused issue arises from issues covered by the SDA workshop series (http://sda2013.dke-research.de/) and invites submissions from all researchers. The workshop series has shown that both the library and the archiving community have made valuable contributions to the management of huge amounts of knowledge and data. However, both are approaching this topic from different views which shall be brought together to cross-fertilize each other. The Semantic Web is another research area that provides promising technical solutions for knowledge representation and management. At the forefront of making the semantic web a mature and applicable reality is the linked data initiative, which already has started to be adopted by the library community. Semantic representations of contextual knowledge about cultural heritage objects will enhance organization and access of data and knowledge. In order to achieve a comprehensive investigation, the information seeking and document triage behaviors of users (an area also classified under the field of Human Computer Interaction) are also important to provide a comprehensive investigation of the research topic.

This special issue will solicit high quality papers that demonstrate exceptional achievements on Semantic Digital Archives, including but not limited to:

CFP - Reference Reviews

Reference Reviews (an Emerald journal) is seeking articles for publication in 2013-2014. These articles should focus on reference sources (as opposed to reference processes). Topic examples include, but are not limited to:

1.  An overview or annotated bibliography of a particular type of reference source (eg, bibliographies) or resources within a particular subject field
2.  A comparative review of two or more sources in a particular subject area
3.  A viewpoint article about a range of resources or type of resource
4.  Any other type of article which has as its focus a discussion of reference sources 

Articles which are international in scope are particularly desirable. The word count is 1500 minimum, 2500 average, but can be significantly longer if necessary for topic coverage.

Call for articles: special issue on digital preservation for OCLC Systems & Services

_OCLC Systems & Services: International Digital Library Perspectives_ (OSS:IDLP) will be publishing a special issue on digital preservation in libraries and the issues related to it. The editor is looking for articles on all aspects of this topic. Case studies, opinion pieces, and theoretical musings are appropriate. Articles can be of any length, and figures and screen shots are encouraged. OSS:IDLP is a peer-reviewed journal. If you are interested in contributing, please send the editor your name, a short proposal of the topic, and a tentative title for the article. Deadline for proposals is January 15, 2013. If you've attended a conference or program recently or plan to attend upcoming conferences/programs related to electronic resources in libraries, please consider submitting a report for the column. The "E-Resource Round Up" column is dedicated to helping JERL readers better understand topics related to the ever-changing world of electronic resources and their roles in libraries. It covers developments in the areas of new and emerging technologies and systems related to electronic resources and the digital environment; reports from professional discussion groups, meetings, presentations, and conferences; news and trends related to electronic resource librarianship; tips and suggestions on various aspects of working with electronic resources; opinion pieces; vendor activities; and upcoming events of potential interest to JERL readers. The Journal of Web Librarianship is pleased to announce an upcoming special issue on the topic of data-driven decision making for the library web, edited by Meris A Mandernach. Data-driven decision-making in the realm of library web sites is an emerging and ever-evolving goal for libraries of all types and sizes. As data becomes more available and easily accessible, the use of that data for decision making to support the user experience in online systems, discovery tools and websites is of the utmost importance. Though both qualitative and quantitative data should be used for informing decisions in libraries, this issue's scope will focus on quantitative data sources such as: · Web analytics, including Google Analytics · Log reports (search logs, system logs) · Heat maps · Vendor usage reports · Third-party statistics and logs · Public data from Twitter and other social sites Additionally, this issue will focus on how data from the above sources is used to support decisions about all aspects of the library’s virtual presence, including · Discovery tools · Library websites · Library systems · Mobile sites and interfaces Submissions should clearly state one or more research questions or, for more practical articles, a decision that was or will be supported by the data, and explain the type of data sources used.
