Applications are now being accepted for the Art Libraries Society of North America (ARLIS/NA) H.W. Wilson Foundation Research Award.
This award of up to $3,000 supports research activities by ARLIS/NA members in the fields of librarianship, visual resources curatorship, and the arts. The award seeks to promote research which benefits the professions of art librarianship and visual resources as well as the broader library profession. Proposals may address the compilation and dissemination of information, translation of original scholarship, analysis of the professions, or the enhancement of access to information. Eligible projects include those which result in original scholarship in the arts (performing, architectural, visual, etc.) or aspects of visual and material culture.
Applications and accompanying material must be postmarked by February 4th, 2011.

LRTS Request for Grant Proposals
Library Resources & Technical Services (LRTS), the journal of the Association for Library Collections and Technical Services (ALCTS), announces the availability of grants of up to $1,000 (funded by an ALA Carnegie-Whitney Grant) to assist authors with preparing literature reviews.
The purpose of the grants is to provide funds that will be used for clerical and research support, thereby allowing the author/s to concentrate on analyzing the resources and writing the literature review. Possible tasks might be collecting citations, sorting and organizing citations by themes and categories, locating and gathering resources to be reviewed, verifying citations, funding purchases of articles not owned by the home institution of the author, and so forth. Funding also could provide a mentoring opportunity by funding assistance by a library school or information science student.
Highly cited, literature reviews provide an essential professional service to practitioners, scholars, and students by identifying the key themes and the most important publications appearing in successive two year periods. Books and articles by accredited scholars and researchers, i.e., primarily peer-reviewed publications provide the basis for a literature review. A good literature review is evaluative, selective, and critical, and goes beyond summarizing and quoting from the selected sources. Literature reviews explain why the sources cited are important and valuable, may compare them to prior works, and create a structure that organizes the two-year body of content to make it comprehensible and to identify themes, not only for those who have followed the developments it describes, but to future researchers. All sources referenced appear in the endnotes; a separate bibliography is not published. Although commissioned, LRTS literature reviews go through the same double-blind peer review process as unsolicited manuscripts.
LRTS seeks authors for the following topical areas and coverage periods:
* Acquisitions literature published 2010-2011
* Serials literature published 2010-2011
Papers should be submitted not later than June 30, 2012. Grant recipients will be required to submit progress reports to the LRTS Editor twice a year.
The grant proposal must include:
1. Requester name, title, and contact information
2. The literature to be reviewed (see list above)
3. The requester's credentials to write the literature review
4. The amount requested
5. Budget plan and rationale for how the funds will be expended
Proposals are due by January 31, 2011.

The Jerome and Dorothy Lemelson Center for the Study of Invention and Innovation at the National Museum of American History, Smithsonian Institution, offers a full time, ten week, archival internship opportunity for graduate students each summer. The internship stipend is $5,000. Housing, benefits and transportation are not provided.
The internship will:

Enable new professionals to understand, identify, and manage the historical records of American invention and innovation;
•
Expose interns to the Museum's rich historical collections in the history of technology and twentieth century material culture;
•
Provide hands-on experience with archival collections that document invention and innovation;
•
Create finding aids to collections documenting invention and innovation;
•
Engage interns in discussion of archival issues and practices and provide a wide range of professional experiences within the Museum.
Internships are located in the Museum's Archives Center, a manuscripts and special collections repository with more than 14,000 feet of holdings in a wide range of subject areas and a full time staff of nine. Interns must be enrolled in a graduate degree program and have completed graduate course work in archival, library, or information management, and/or graduate course work in American history, American Studies, Museum Studies, Public History, or another area that relates to the history of invention and innovation in American society. Recent graduates may also apply.

Internship - preservation
Iowa State University is accepting applications for the 2011 Lennox Foundation Preservation and Conservation Internship. This twelve (12) week internship is intended to give current graduate students and recent graduates of preservation and/or conservation programs the opportunity to apply their skills and knowledge of care and treatment of library and archives materials in an academic library. Interns will learn about the overall functioning and organization of the Preservation Department and will undertake and complete a project based on their interests and skills, and the needs and capabilities of the Department.
Eligibility and requirements:
• Applicants must currently be graduate students, in good standing, in a program of library and archives preservation administration or conservation; or a recent graduate of such a program;
• Applicants must have completed at least four preservation or conservation courses before the anticipated start date of this internship;
• Applicants must commit to 12 consecutive weeks of full-time employment as interns;
• Internship must be completed between March 1 and November 15, 2011;
• At the end of the internship, the intern will be required to submit a final report or project;
