Best Practices Exchange (BPE) conference

The 2013 Best Practices Exchange (BPE) conference will be coming to Salt
Lake City, Utah, *November 13-15, 2013*. We have an exciting program
planned about the preservation and access of electronic records, which is
still taking shape. If you would like to submit a session proposal, we have
extended the deadline to *September 30th*. We have also posted our program
schedule online at http://www.bpexchange.org with sessions received to
date, so you can see what's in store at the conference (go to the
Registration page for further details). There are still slots to fill, so
don't be shy, and tell us what electronic records projects you've been up
to!

It's time to register for the conference! Hotel reservations can be made at
http://www.radisson.com/saltlakecity/BPE. Reservations should be made by
October 19.

Don't forget to share the conference details with colleagues interested in
filmmaking and the digital materials that are produced in that process. Our
keynote speaker, Milt Shefter from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and
Sciences, will give a seminar (in addition to his keynote address) for BPE
attendees, independent filmmakers, film students, and instructors
discussing issues he outlined in his paper, *The Digital Dilemma: Strategic
Issues in Archiving and Accessing Digital Motion Picture
Materials<http://www.oscars.org/science-technology/council/projects/digitaldilemma/>.
*This could be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for filmmakers who may not
be familiar with digital preservation, but whose livelihood will likely be
impacted by it, to talk to such an expert.

Our other guest speaker, Bob Bennett, former U.S. Senator from the State of
Utah, will also share his insights about how the archival community can
advocate for its needs with the people who hold the purse strings.
